Maintain a Clear Conscience

Dear Church Family,

I had someone ask about Wesley's 10 Points for maintaining a clear conscience that I shared in the message Sunday morning. The request was to have a copy of the list. I thought I would send it along to everyone.
  1. Take note of every sin; count no sin small.
  2. Consider yourself living under God’s eye… all things are open before Him. You cannot deceive him – for he is infinite wisdom. You cannot fly from Him – He is everywhere. You cannot bribe Him – for he is righteousness itself. Speak knowing God hears. Walk knowing He is all around. Enjoy His presence while you live in recognition of His holiness & love.
  3. Be serious and frequent in the examinations of your heart and life. Every evening review life from that day. Have you reflected the heart of God personally, to your peers , and to the world.
  4. Let everyday actions & decisions have reference to your whole life. Let your whole life be a preparation for heaven.
  5. Don’t live on cheap grace – careless about sin because Jesus purchased a pardon.
  6. Be nothing in your own eyes. In and of ourselves… what do we have to be proud of? Live humbly before God and people.
  7. When we live by worry we sink our own ship for fear of pirates. Do the best you know to Do and leave the results to God. (I guess in Wesley's day the fear of pirates was significant and a good illustration for the futility of worry)
  8. Don’t give advice lightly
  9. Don’t do anything you can’t pray over.
  10. Think and speak and do what you believe Jesus would do in your shoes. By imitating Christ, you can become and example to all.

What is God telling you about your life through your conscience?

(Our reason for rejoicing is this:) ...Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in our relations with you, in the holiness and sincerity that are from God. We have done so not according to worldly wisdom but according to God's grace. 2 Cor. 1:12

*The list above is a condensed paraphrase from Wesley sermon #105 On Conscience

Praying For Your church

I want to invite you to read Colossians 1.

You might want to give special attention to vss. 3,4 & 9-14

In this scripture please note that the church is as strong and as fruitful and as Christlike as it's people. The church equals people. The people of our church need your prayers. We all need each others prayers that we might grow up in the fullness and completeness of what God wants to accomplish through our lives.

Look at what Paul prayed for the church.

"We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints... For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."

Paul is telling us how he prayed for the Colossians.... He prayed continually with thanksgiving.

Paul is telling us what he prayed for the Colossians... He prayed that they grow strong in Christian living and Christian hope. He prayed that their lives would shine out in faith, love, and good works.

(Please look again at the underlined portions of the scripture above)

I bring this to your attention today to encourage you to pray in this way for your church family. May God shine through us more brightly then ever before.

Divine Moments are at the Heart of a Healthy Church

What is a divine moment? It is simply a moment when God speaks to us about our lives and we say "yes." Church should be a place where every person can find that sense of God - guiding, comforting, clearing up doubts and confusion, teaching, and strengthening our lives. In finding this clarity from God the completion of the divine moment is when we take action. We do what God says. We are praying for divine moments to be an everyday occurrence in our lives. We are praying they occur in every worship service, small group meeting, and casual fellowship when we are just together to talk. Please join us in this life changing spiritual journey!

Background Scripture:

  • Jesus said in Matthew 18:20, "For where two or three gather together as my followers, I am there among them." (In the power of the Holy Spirit)

  • Jesus also said (John 16:7, 12 - 13) "It is best for you that I go away" (back to heaven following the resurrection)... "There is so much more I want to tell you... the Holy Spirit... will guide you into all truth."

  • Divine moments come to us when we are open and seeking God the Holy Spirit to work in our lives.
